  • Aviation Cocktail

An elegant cocktail for a more civilized age

The aviation cocktail is something of a forgotten concoction.  Gin, lemon and some exotic flavors combine for a very adventurous experience.  Due to the obscure and until recently unavailable liquors it has not been widely made for quite some time but it has come back.  If you can’t find creme de violette in your area it can be omitted but don’t try to substitute juice from neon cherries for the maraschino liquor as they are not similar.

    • 2 oz gin
    • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
    • 1/4 oz maraschino liquor
    • 1/4 oz creme de violette

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with some ice and give it a good shake.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, then garnish with either a lemon peel or a brandied cherry.

  • Scotch

I love scotch.  Scotchy Scotch Scotch.

There is not much of a recipe for scotch but there are generally no instructions on the bottle.  Just in case you are tempted to try pouring it in your ear or something here is how to dispense scotch.
    1. Find a glass.  If you are a fancy pants you probably have a Glencairn whisky glass.  I don’t so I use a rocks glass.
    2. Put 1 icecube in said glass.  While you don’t have to use a Han Solo carbonite ice cube it’s more fun if you do.  If you have whisky stones you probably don’t need to read this.
    3. Pour scotch in glass.
    4. Enjoy!

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

When I first joined this site I had a lofty goal of burning through my Steam backlog while drinking and writing about it.  I thought it would be a nice little exercise in finishing off some games while getting to experience a variety of alcoholic beverages.  Then I made the mistake of choosing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as my first game.

    The game
Skyrim is a massively single player role playing game.  There is a great deal of freedom in this game; there are no character classes or fixed paths.   How you play the game is up to you – skills are broadly categorized into fighter, mage or thief skills and you are free to mix and match skills however you want.  If you want to sneak around pick-pocketing everyone until you use chain lightning on them you can do that.  If you want to be a blacksmith that makes poisons and a bow that works too.
