Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Uncharted 3 Drink

Looking for an Uncharted 3 Drink?  Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is surprisingly enough the third game in the Uncharted series for the Playstation 3.  Although there is a hefty multiplayer component to this game it is still primary a story driven adventure game.  Since this is the third Uncharted game there are not a lot of surprises about the gameplay but Naughty Dog did utilize the power of the cell processor to add more spiders than ever.  They did not add the ability to easily capture screenshots.

In Uncharted 3 you will spend a lot of time traveling around the world looking for history and punching dudes.  You will also solve puzzles and shoot a lot of jerks.  And for some reason even though this game is set in modern times there are ancient artifacts just lying around for you to collect.  Who knew that the best place to find priceless treasures is in a crowded market just sitting on the ground?

What should you drink when playing Uncharted 3?  Since a lot of this game takes place in the middle east a good drink choice would be a low alcohol content lager since anything stronger than about 10% abv would actually cause dehydration in the desert.  There are pirates to fight, a luxury yacht and semi-tropical locations too though so a Mai Tai would not be out of place.  However given that the game box art has a little bit of a spoiler in that you are involved in a plane crash the best drink choice for this game is the Aviation Cocktail, a drink from the early 20th century that was supposedly drank to give people enough courage to fly.

The Recipe

The aviation cocktail is something of a forgotten concoction.  Gin, lemon and some exotic ingredients combine for a very adventurous experience.  Due to the obscure and until recently unavailable liquors it has not been widely made for quite some time but it has come back.  If you can’t find creme de violette in your area it can be omitted but don’t try to substitute juice from neon cherries for the maraschino liquor as they are not similar.

  • 2 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz maraschino liquor
  • 1/4 oz creme de violette

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with some ice and give it a good shake.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, then garnish with either a lemon peel or a brandied cherry.
