Terraria

Terraria is a hard game to describe. It shares some elements with Minecraft but where Minecraft is a building tool with a bit of a game thrown in Terraria is a game with a bit of a building tool thrown in. It is a side scrolling platform adventure role playing city builder. So what sets it apart from all those other SSPARPCB games and how does that help us find the right drink?

The 2 main areas of this game are crafting and adventuring.

While adventuring your character will explore a variety of biomes. These biomes for the most part consist of fairly unpleasant conditions although there are some nice relaxing floating islands. From jungles with jungle bats, jungle grass and jungle slimes to hell with hellstones, hellforges and hellbats your adventurer will dig in every kind of environment imaginable. All while in the dark.

Crafting is what sets this game apart from Dig Dug or Ghosts and Goblins. Every tree that is chopped down will yield wood for building torches. Continue reading

Gin and Tonic

Concordia Crescimus

The Gin and Tonic is a classic cocktail.  An easy to make drink it is still one of the most popular cocktails around. It was first concocted in colonial times in tropic British territories where it was used to combat the heat of the day.  Tonic water also contains quinine which was used to fight Malaria until World War II.  Plus it glows under a blacklight!  There is no real set ratio of ingredients in the Gin & Tonic…some bars drown the gin in the tonic water but I think a 1:1 ratio is best.  If you don’t want to taste the Gin why have a gin and tonic?

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 2 oz Tonic Water
  • 1 Lime Wedge
  • Ice

Place your ice in a highball glass then pour in the Gin.  Follow this with your Tonic Water.  You can squeeze a bit of lime juice in if you would like.  Gently stir then garnish with the lime wedge.  Now you are ready to beat the tropical heat in style.

Sonic Generations

Sonic Generations is the latest in a very long line of Sonic the Hedgehog games.  An extremely long line of games.  The Wikipedia page that lists all the Sonic games is longer than the Declaration of Independence.  As someone who has not played any Sonic games for a long time it came of something of a shock how far the series has strayed since it’s roots.

The game itself seems to be dealing with something of an identity crisis.  It consists of some really outstanding 2d levels that follow the New Super Mario Bros approach but then follows these terrific levels with garbage.  All of the levels are throwbacks to previous sonic games.  In addition to jumping on robots in a variety of locales the game features a skateboarding section, a go-kart level, a…vampire lady bat or something and a werewolf?  What the shit. Cuba Libre

¡Viva la Revolución!

Everyone has probably had a Cuba Libre but chances are they don’t know it.  According to Bacardi it is the worlds second most popular drink.  If it was good enough for Teddy Roosevelt then it is certainly good enough for us.  A properly made Cuba Libre is better than the bowling alley rum & coke you always regret ordering.  I like using Mexican Coke and a spiced rum but really any cola and rum will work.

  •  2 oz rum
  • 1 cola beverage
  • 1 lime wedge
  • Ice

Before you mix your drink squeeze a little lime into your highball glass then give the lime  a very gentle muddling in the glass.  Take the lime out and shake the glass a bit to coat it with the lime juice.  Add ice to your glass then pour the rum over it and top it off with your cola.  Garnish with your abused lime wedge. Refreshing!
